Short answer
The easiest window for exterior painting in Phoenix is October through April. Summer jobs work fine when crews start at first light, follow the shade and avoid walls that are too hot to coat.
What the paint makers say about temperature
Sherwin-Williams gives a general safe range of about 50°F to 90°F for exterior work. Many newer paints can go down to about 35°F. They also warn that temperatures over 100°F can make paint dry before it bonds, and that painting in direct summer sun leads to lap marks and poor adhesion.
Surface temperature matters more than air temperature. A west-facing stucco wall in July can be far hotter than the forecast high.
Phoenix season by season
Fall (October to November)
Ideal. Warm days, mild nights and low rain. This is when schedules fill up, so book early.
Winter (December to February)
Very good. Mornings can be cool, so we start later and make sure walls stay above the dew point while the paint cures.
Spring (March to May)
Good, but wind and dust pick up. We protect wet surfaces and landscaping.
Summer (June to September)
Doable with a plan. We start at dawn, work shaded sides first and stop before walls get too hot. During monsoon season we watch for storms and dust.
Commercial buildings run on a different clock
For offices, retail, restaurants and warehouses, timing is usually about your operation, not the weather. We work nights and weekends, or phase the job by area, so staff and customers aren’t in the way. For interiors, season barely matters.

Frequently asked questions
Can you paint exteriors in Phoenix in the summer?
Yes, with the right schedule. Crews start at first light, follow the shade around the building and stop on walls that get too hot. Sherwin-Williams notes that temperatures over 100°F can make paint dry before it bonds properly.
What temperature is too cold to paint outside?
Many modern exterior paints can be applied down to about 35°F, but conditions need to stay above the dew point for about 48 hours after application. Phoenix winters are rarely a problem.
Does monsoon season affect painting?
Yes. Rain, dust and high humidity can ruin fresh paint. We watch the forecast and don’t coat walls that won’t stay dry long enough to cure.
